How Do The Lusum Rugby Balls Compare With Leading Brands?
Lusum have been manufacturing Lusum Munifex rugby balls since 2012. Lusum rugby balls are very good quality and extremely reliable. Lusum’s tagline, of not offering sponsorship is essential, to offer good value to their customers. Consequently they are available without a huge mark up seen with other brands.
The Lusum range of rugby balls are made in the same factories as some leading brands. Often, to their credit, to the same or a higher specification. Having seen both we can confirm the Munifex training ball is almost identical to the Rhino Cyclone. Gilbert are clearly market leaders and getting people to try a new brand can be challenging. However the latest Lusum Munifex balls are worth trying, especially with junior sides needing so many balls.

What Type Of Grip Is On The Lusum Munifex Rugby Ball?
The old style standard grip was upgraded in 2020. The new 3D Grip has proven to be very popular, as the grip lasts longer and is suitable for use in all weather conditions. The ball has different sizes pimples which aid grip and help with water dispersion. This makes the rugby ball easier to handle and ideal for young players. The images we have used are taken from the Lusum website but do show the old style grip. The new style grip is far superior to this.
What Sizes And Colour Options Are Available in The Lusum Range?
When you coach a large group of players across a few ages, trying to locate the correct size for your players can be a nightmare. Especially if the balls are all the same colour. Colour coding the Lusum Munifex rugby balls make each size easily identified by colour. Gilbert do the same with their GTR3000 range.

There are 3 sizes of ball available – 3, 4 and 5 and they are in the following colours
- Red – Size 3
- Green – Size 4
- Blue – Size 5
As with most rugby training balls the hole for the valve is ‘in-panel’. As the manufacturing process is slightly easier using this method, it helps keep the cost of training balls lower.

The training ball name – Munifex is a rank in the Roman army and is a foot soldier. It is used as a term to emphasize how hard the entry level balls can be pushed.
