I Heard The Gilbert GTR4000 Is The Best Rugby Training Ball, Is This True?
Gilbert’s High Quality GTR4000 rugby training ball and I would honestly say, is one of the most durable and potentially the best available today. However it is priced slightly on the high side. So you need to work out for yourself if it is the best value for money. The GTR4000 balls have the new Tri-Grip as a result it is claimed to give a larger surface area for players to grip. It is also suggested this type of grip lasts longer too. I haven’t been able to prove or dis-prove this theory so will go along with it.
What Colours And Sizes Are The Gilbert GTR4000 Training Balls Available in?
The Gilbert GTR4000 balls are available in a good choice of colours, in fact there were 6 colourways at last count. There are 4 sizes available too – Size 3, 4, 5 and in a transition 4.5 size. The colours the GTR4000 balls are available in are as follows
- Black/White – Sizes 3, 4 and 5
- Navy/White – Sizes 3, 4 and 5
- Red/White – Sizes 3, 4 and 5
- Sky/White – Sizes 3, 4 and 5
- Fluoro – Sizes 3, 4 and 5
- Blue – Size 4.5 (transition)
They are constructed with a 3 ply poly-cotton and cotton laminate which is then applied to a rubber surface. This then has the Tri-Grip moulded onto the rubber surface in a high heat press (fascinating process if you get the chance to view in person, or look out for my video on YouTube). The balls are hand stitched and have a Hydratec surface, so that it repels more of the water, improving the level of grip.
It should be noted that the size 5 GTR4000 ball is generally more expensive than the size 3 and 4 models. This is an annoying feature as a one price suits all sizes, is a much preferred model. This is why we have marked the GTR4000 ball down in our summary below.
